What if we paid more attention to our health before something went wrong?
This simple question captures much of what naturopathy means to us at GEA Retreat.
Naturopathy takes a holistic view of health. Rather than looking at an isolated symptom, it considers the whole person, their nutrition, sleep, movement, stress, emotional wellbeing, environment and everyday habits, and explores how these different parts of life interact.
At GEA, this philosophy feels completely natural. We already believe that human wellbeing cannot be separated from the environment we live in, the food we eat, the way we move, the quality of our rest or our relationship with nature.
Prevention before intervention
One of the principles we value most in naturopathy is prevention. Wellbeing is not only something to think about when we become unwell. The small choices we make every day can create conditions that support our physical, mental and emotional health over time.
This is also why nature plays such an important role at GEA. Time outdoors, natural rhythms, nourishing food, movement, rest and meaningful connection are not occasional additions to life here; they are part of it.

The GEA Naturopathic Lifestyle Assessment
To make this philosophy practical, we developed our own Naturopathic Lifestyle Assessment. All the retreat and coliving guests at GEA are given the opportunity to do this assessment if they feel like that, and then we take it from there.
We are not diagnosing anything; the assessment helps us explore the quality of an individual’s current lifestyle across different areas of wellbeing.
Together, we look at existing habits and patterns, recognise what is already working well, and identify areas where small, realistic improvements could support a healthier and more balanced way of living.
Let’s say, for instance, you have excessive screen time, and that affects your sleep quality. You know you can consciously change that, right?
It is not about creating a “perfect” lifestyle. It is about becoming more aware of the one we already have.
How naturopathy connects with yoga, mindful eating and nature
Naturopathy also gives us a framework that connects many experiences that already form part of life at GEA.
- Yoga brings awareness to the body and breath.
- Mindful eating changes the way we experience nourishment.
- Forest bathing reconnects our senses with the natural environment.
- Reiki introduces another perspective on relaxation, energy and inner balance.
- Gardening brings us back to the soil and grounding, seasonal rhythms and the origins of our food.
Meditation, barefoot walking, herbal tea tasting, stargazing or cloudgazing, movement and rest… They share a common intention: to create space for greater awareness of ourselves and the way we live.
Returning to the whole
For us, naturopathy is therefore not another activity on the GEA programme. It is part of the philosophy behind it. A reminder to look at the whole person rather than one isolated problem. To become curious about the relationship between our habits and our wellbeing. To work with nature rather than constantly against its rhythms.
And, perhaps most importantly, to understand health not simply as the absence of illness, but as an ongoing practice of living in greater harmony with our entire being.
At GEA Retreat, wellbeing begins with awareness.
